E-T-A’s automotive circuit breakers provide global automakers with solutions to electrically protect windshield wipers, electric window mechanisms or electric seat adjustment. A failure in any of these applications can considerably compromise the comfort and safety of a vehicle. E-T-A’s customers are also protecting the 12 V power outlets in their cars because these are no longer used as cigarette lighters. Today, these power outlets are used by drivers and passengers for a wide range of loads. In addition, E-T-A products protect trailer lighting systems and also the new adaptive headlights that adjust to curves while driving. Customers appreciate the benefits of E-T-A’s automotive circuit breakers, no matter whether it is 1160, 1610, 1620 or 1170. These products offer: resettability, accuracy and reliability. They help reduce: vehicle costs by exactly specifying the product to the required loads, cable cross sections and power distribution. E-T-A’s circuit breakers also help reduce downtimes or failures which ultimately helps maintain the vehicle’s reputation in the eyes of the end user.

The extremely compact thermal 1610 and 1620 automotive circuit breaker, as well as the powerful 1170, are used in applications where reliability and availability are essential. The types 1616, 1626 and 1176 are identical models, but offer a fast trip curve. If a protective element is installed in an inaccessible location, a blade fuse should not be used. This is an ideal application for 1610-92 and 1620-1 auto-reset circuit breakers. These will continue to reset in cycles of a few seconds until the failure is resolved, i.e. until the overload is removed. The 1160 and 1620-2 offer modified auto-reset functionality where the contacts are kept open until the power in the circuit is switched off for a certain time.

The 1170 offers attractive features, especially for utility vehicles, including a snap-action mechanism, tease-free mechanism and a high rupture capacity up to 400 A. The snap-action mechanism ensures switch-on operation without hazardous arcs, while the tease-free mechanism allows reliable disconnection even when the reset button is blocked. Its retaining clips provide a tight fit in the terminal block even in environments with high shock and vibration.
