Redefining HV battery architectures
Modern vehicle platforms require high-performance, safe and as compact HV systems as possible. At the same time, numerous relays, fuses, pyrofuses, control lines and connectors increase the complexity in the battery pack.

HVB10 all-in-one solution
The HVB10 all-in-one solution combines central switching and protection functions in one device. This significantly helps facilitate the HV architecture and reduce the number of components and interfaces.
In the future, an HVB10 circuit breaker can replace up to 15 components and connections within a battery pack.
These include HV relays, fuse, pyrofuses, controls, busbars and connections between the individual components.
The result: Fewer components, fewer interfaces and a significantly simplified HV topology.

Switching and protection in one device
The HVB10 all-in-one solution performs several key functions within the
HV battery architecture

Double-pole switching (All-pole disconnection)
Two HV main contacts switch the positive and negative terminals simultaneously and physically separate both poles from the vehicle’s electrical system.
Electromechanical overcurrent protection
The protection function works without a sensor, microcontroller or software — even without an LV supply.
Quick short-circuit disconnection
High short-circuit currents are quickly interrupted electromechanically and without pyrotechnics.
Resettable protection concept
The HVB10 circuit breaker is designed to be switched on again after tripping and thus supports faster restart.
Switching status and cable break monitoring
Transmits the switch position and supports the diagnosis of contacts and lines.
Your benefits at a glance

Easy integration
Switching functions, overcurrent and short circuit protection in a single device reduce components and connections.

Physical isolation
The positive and negative terminals of the battery can be switched on and physically isolated at the same time.

High availability
The resettable concept supports rapid restart after tripping.

Software-free protection
The electromechanical protection function works without a microcontroller, software and LV supply.

Bi-directional operation
The HVB10 circuit breaker is suitable for energy output, recuperation and charging without a preferred current direction.
For demanding HV vehicle platforms
The HVB10 circuit breaker is being developed for use in powerful HV battery systems, such as:
The focus is not on a single vehicle class, but on integration into future HV architectures with high currents, limited installation space and increasing requirements for availability and system efficiency.

Classification of values: These values come from a development experiment and do not represent final series values
Quick disconnection of high short circuit currents
When switched off, the resulting arc is deflected into the arc chamber by a magnetic field and split into several smaller arcs there. The counter-voltage generated in the process helps extinguish the arc quickly.
Experiments with a first-generation HVB10 prototype showed the following values at an open-circuit voltage of 918 V and a prospective short-circuit current of 17.5 kA:
